Chapel Hill is geographically situated West of the suburb of Indooroopilly, North of the suburb of Kenmore, and East of the suburb of Kenmore Hills. Chapel Hill borders Mt Coot-tha State Park to the North, which provides many bushwalking, hiking and mountain bike trails which are enjoyed by locals. The heavily treed Mt Coot-tha provides a beautiful backdrop to life in Chapel Hill. While the suburb straddles Moggill Road, 92% of Chapel Hill properties are located North of Moggill Road.

The vast majority of properties are houses on their own land, with an average land size of 700 square metres. Some small townhouse arrangements do exist, as do some acreage allotments. These acreage properties are tightly held by owners. To the West, the streets of Tinarra Crescent, Bielby Road and the area including Wexford Street and Elwood Street is formally in the suburb of Kenmore Hills, however it is often thought to be part of Chapel Hill as there is no access from these streets to the area of Kenmore Hills further to the West that is accessed via Brookfield Road.

The History of Chapel Hill

Moggill Road was built as a boundary road in 1849. In 1925 the Moggill Shire disbanded when Chapel Hill, Upper Brookfield, Gold Creek, Pullenvale, Moggill, Fig Tree Pocket, Kenmore and Brookfield became part of the Greater Brisbane Council, however most development started occurring around the 1950’s and 60’s when smaller housing site subdivision took place.

The naming of Chapel Hill stems from the Church, which stands on the corner of Chapel Hill and Moggill Roads which was originally commissioned around 1875 and later replaced in 1955 with the current building that stands. It was originally a Primitive Methodist Church and became a landmark for people travelling out along Moggill Road which was built as a boundary road in 1849.

Some of the first settlers in the area were the Breddin’s, Russell’s and the Bielby’s, all commemorated by streets in the suburb.
